Tim McGraw sent a message out into space – and cyberspace – this week to announce his new single. Since the mid-tempo love song is titled “Top of the World,” McGraw and his band dedicated the premiere of the tune, via Twitter, to the astronauts aboard the International Space Station.

Top of the World” is the first release from McGraw’s 14th studio LP, expected to come out later this year. The album follows Sundown Heaven Town, the singer’s second for Big Machine Records, which was released last September.

Four singles were issued from that album, including the Number One tune,Shotgun Rider” and the Top Ten, “Meanwhile, Back at Mama’s,” featuring wife Faith Hill.

In October 2014, Sundown Heaven Town topped the country album chart and reached Number Three on the Billboard 200. The LP has sold just under 300,000 copies since its release.

While NASA’s mission is to explore space, McGraw says his own mission is to create music that means something to him personally and not music that caters to radio play or specific trends.

“I don’t play to them because I’ve been around long enough that I have seen quite a few come and go,” McGraw tells Rolling Stone Country.

“But I’m influenced by the things that I hear — whether I’m driving 16-year-olds to cheerleading practice or listening to radio, country or even classic rock. As an artist you ebb and flow all the time. I don’t really pay that much attention, though, to trends.
