Pakistan remained tight-lipped over the arrest of a Pakistani militant in Udhampur Wednesday. The militant claimed he belonged to Faisalabad, a city some 250 km from Islamabad.
The Inter-Services Public Relations and Pakistan Foreign Office did not respond to queries. The Pakistani media too remained silent, not even mentioning the arrest in its bulletins or headlines. There was absolute information blackout on this.
Instead most Pakistani news channels focused on border skirmishes in Sialkot, where Pakistan claimed three civilians were killed due to “unprovoked” firing from the Indian side.
The reason for the blackout, many believe, is because the last time when a few Pakistani channels called Ajmal Kasab a Pakistani, they were labelled anti-Pakistan.
Those close to the military said it was impossible for a Pakistani to cross the Line of Control or the border with India.
“The area is heavily militarized on the Indian side. It is not possible to infiltrate anymore. These accusations against Pakistan are only because India does not want to continue peace talks with Pakistan and is, therefore, looking for false allegations to break off contact,” Brigadier Ghazanfar Ali Shah, a retired military intelligence official, said.
