Jeffrey Webb, once seen as a potential successor to Sepp Blatter as Fifa president, is reported to have accepted extradition to face corruption charges in New York.

Webb, one of seven people arrested in a swoop in Zurich in May, is accused of corruption in a US indictment.

The Fifa vice-president and president of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) could be the first of those arrested at the end of May to appear before a US court.

Quoting a “person familiar with the matter”, Bloomberg Business said Webb, 50, could be brought before a court in Brooklyn.

It is understood that Switzerland’s Federal Office of Justice has said it expects to hand Webb over to the American authorities within the next 10 days.

He is alleged to have been one of a number of Fifa officials and company executives who put together substantial property empires, either obtaining the real estate illegally or using illicit funds.

Webb, 50, from the Cayman Islands, was the owner of a six-bedroom detached house in Loganville, Georgia, worth an estimated $940,000 (£613,000).

It was built in 2007 in a palatial style, with ornate pillars, large balconies and a sweeping exterior staircase.

Webb enjoyed a successful career with Fifa, eventually holding the post of chairman of Fifa’s audit committee.

He was one of a number of officials calling for the publication of a report into allegations of Fifa corruption surrounding the successful Russian and Qatari bid to hold the World Cup written by Michael Garcia, a former New York district attorney. Read More
