Pakistan opposition leader Air Marshal Asghar Khan accused Islamabad of creating a situation that could prompt intervention from the armed forces. The Tehrik-i-Istiqlal Party leader and one-time chief of air force said he would not like to see the armed forces oust the government but thought it could happen. Air Marshal Khan claimed the government was undermining army discipline by sending soldiers in civilian clothes to attend public political meetings.

Opec HQ Stormed
A group of guerillas stormed the headquarters of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) in Vienna, sprayed the building with machine-gun fire and seized about 30 hostages — including 10 oil ministers from nine Opec member nations. Two Austrian detectives and another man were shot dead as the guerillas broke into a routine meeting of Opec ministers. The police said the guerillas demanded an aircraft to fly themselves and their hostages to an unknown destination. Unconfirmed reports said the leader of the group was a Venezuelan and its demands were connected with Saudi Arabia.

JP’s Statement
Jayaprakash Narayan, convalescing in Jaslok Hospital in Bombay, said in a statement that there should be no anxiety in any quarter about the treatment he had been receiving at the hospital. JP said he was issuing the statement because “some anxiety” had been “expressed in some quarters about my medical treatment and care”. Allaying these fears, he said he had come to the hospital “of my own choice”.

Misa On Ex-CM
The Orissa government ordered the revocation of the detention order under Misa against Naba Krushna Choudhury, a former chief minister of Orissa. Choudhury was released on November 24 on parole for a month following ill health in jail.
