Fashion Fiesta brings together 40 designers, weavers, and art manufacturers under one roof, showcasing a blend of contemporary and classic styles.

The city is opening up to newer trends from the fashion world in a big way with designers and boutiques from different cities turning to woo the savvy shoppers through regular exhibitions.

After a couple of exhibitions held in the recent past that highlighted ethnic trends, Fashion Fiesta, an exhibition at Hotel Novotel, has brought together 40 designers, weavers, and art manufacturers under one roof, showcasing a blend of contemporary and classic styles in saris, dress materials, kurtas, and accessories.

“For college and office wear, we were looking for modern designs in one-gram gold jewellery as well as stylish accessories which we otherwise don’t find in city stores. Such designs emerge from the fashion markets of Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai, which can be found only in designer exhibitions like these,” said sisters Sameera and Sravani Karanam, who picked up accessories from the expo.

The ethnic collection market is also witnessing a change with traditional designs metamorphosing into a fusion of fabrics and contemporary patterns. Some of the designers and craftsmen who have exhibited their products highlight this trend.

So you have Kolkata’s traditional pure silk at Poppy Nag’s stall, printed with pictures of veteran Bollywood stars giving it a retro look, which is quite in vogue in the fashion circuits. “This is the second time we are holding an exhibition in Visakhapatnam and have found an encouraging response from here,” said Fouzia Tarannum of Creative Events, the organiser of the expo.

Bringing in a whiff of fresh air is the Rare Collections stall from Vijayawada with Gujarati and Rajasthani wooden stools, almirahs, racks and benches that are symbolic of the painstaking effort put in by traditional craftsmen of India.

The exhibition is on from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. till July 29.
