The world premiere of Annie Baker’s John, helmed by Fun Home director and Tony winner Sam Gold, officially opens Off-Broadway Aug. 10. Lois Smith and Georgia Engel star.

John takes place at a bed and breakfast in Gettysburg, PA, the week after Thanksgiving.

The cast includes Broadway vet Smith, who is a two-time Tony nominee for The Grapes of Wrath and Buried Child, five-time Emmy Award nominee Georgia Engel (“The Mary Tyler Moore Show”); Christopher Abbott (“Girls”); and Hong Chau (“Inherent Vice”).

Here’s how it’s billed: “The week after Thanksgiving. A Bed & Breakfast in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. A cheerful innkeeper. A young couple struggling to stay together. Thousands of inanimate objects, watching.”

Following a recent extension announcement, performances will now continue through Sept. 6 in the Irene Diamond Stage at the Pershing Square Signature Center. Previews began July 22.

Baker and Gold previously worked together on her Pulitzer Prize-winning play The Flick, currently being revived with the same creative team Off-Broadway at the Barrow Street Theatre. For more information visit TheBarrowStreet.

Similar to The Flick, which caused a stir for its long running time when it was first staged at Playwrights Horizons, Baker’s newest work has a running time of three hours and 30 minutes, including two intermissions.
